Daily learning: who to talk to

There are many teachers in the school to offer support and assistance. These are general guidelines but in the end it is more important that you talk to someone rather than the “right person”. Any of the following can help you connect with the staff members that help you the most.

Subject Teacher                      : Questions or concern about assessments, results, your progress, etc.

Mentor                                   : Motivation, study habits, how to do your best, general  concern, counseling, etc.

Coordinator                            : ‘Social life’ issues, social/emotional issues, your progress general.

Academic Coordinator          : All curriculum related questions, your learning generally. Result, motivation, service as an action questions and progress.

Daily Learning: Attendance & deadlines:

Attendance:

Attendance is one best ways of predicting student success. As a result, as a student missed a significant number of classes, we will start a dialogue with the student, parent and school teachers. The question of whether these absences are excused or not is less of an issue than whether or not the student is in class.

A student who has less than 90% of attendance during the academic year may not receive the Admit card for the final Examination. For more information, please refer to the school attendance policy.

Deadlines:

“In our curriculum teachers plan carefully the timing of pre-mid tern, mid-term, post mid-term, pre-board & final examination to ensure balance through the year. Where possible, teachers set deadlines for these tasks in collaboration with students giving a consideration.

To the examination schedule and load in other subject. It is an expectation that students meet their deadlines in our curriculum. If they are experiencing difficulty to do so, they must contact the Academic coordinator as soon as possible so that a possible extension can be discussed. From our curriculum, students receive age-appropriate support and guidance with their study skills and work management. Overall, SKV students are expected to develop such work habits that they are prepared for the rigour of later assessments in their future cases.

Attendance policy

Attendance is related directly to the academic success and therefore it is important to minimize absences and tardies when a child is absent parents must notify the class teacher /coordinator / principal through the diary or a request letter.

Tardies can be as harmful as being absence 3 tardies to any classes will count as an unexcused absence and may result in loss of “off campus privileges”.

If the student is absent or late numerous time in a Academic year, the parents will be notified by the class teacher and the student will be referred to the coordinator to work on solutions to solve this attendance problem.

If this behavior continues, there will be a parents meeting between the student, class teacher, mentor, coordinator and parents.

If a student having less than 90% of attendance in a academic year he/she may not receive the Admit card for the final examinations. In case of any emergency cases parents need to submit the required documents along with a request letter to the coordinator without fail, for further proceedings.

Daily learning :- Active learning

Active learning: Learning More and Better

Here is a tool that will help you develop active leaying skills:

Know your why: Define your goals. How do they relate so success in each class? Write that down & look at it often. Be motivated.

Show Up: Be in class, every day and on time. Communicate if absent. If there’s a review session, be there. Be Present.

Use your Time: Plan your study time. Work in short, mixed blocks. look ahead. Use class-time well. meet deadlines. Be prepared.

Use your Teachers: Ask questions & advice. Learn their schedule & set up meetings. Show them progress. Be cooperative.

Use feedback: Look past results. Ask for clarity/detail. Set goals for future next steps. Change processes. Be a learner.

Take notes: In class &/or after. Keep lists of concepts, vocabulary, etc. Write down what happened and why it matters. Be Responsible.

Eliminate Destruction: Use time management software. Close screens. Live healthy. Seek silence. Avoid drama. Be focused.

Work together: Teach each other tough concepts. Create & share study guides. Quiz each other. Push each other. Be a leader.

Answer your own questions: Google things you don’t know, Find more resources. Discuss with teachers. Be Active.

Participate in class: Listen deeply. Answer & ask questions, out loud and/or in notes. Make lists, charts & pictured. Be intentional.

To be completely successful as a SKV student, and to be properly prepared for success beyond SKV, students are encouraged to be active learners. In other words, the action. You take as a student will be the most important factor in your learning, not the action taken by your teachers. You have the responsibility to make sure you get everything you can out of your education

Active learning has two aspects. The first is being engaged in activities that demand higher level thinking skills and being aware of process of learning, not just the product. Your teachers will set assessments that will help you do that.

The Second aspect of active learning is the set of behaviors that active learners display.

These include the following:

  • Participating in class
  • Taking notes
  • Understanding the course curriculum
  • Finding gaps in your own understanding and finding ways to fill those gaps
  • Independent reading and extra practice
  • Innovative study habits
  • Collaborative study
  • Asking for clarification and help.

Students who are able to perform at their full potential consistently demonstrate many of these behaviors.
